This year’s supermoon landed on June 23, 2013. I was lucky enough to have an hour with decent viewing at my regular location, Jones Beach. I went out with three good friends of mine, we set up at the Jones Beach parking lot and waited for the moon to show.

It was beautiful rising, looked humongous against the ocean and cruise ships foreground. Unfortunately I was unable to get any good shots of it rising due to limited visibility.

But I did get great shots of it once it was up in the sky. Remember to check out my Lunar Astrophotography Album on the site.

In one shot I captured a plane trying to cross the moon. It was random and beautiful. I was lucky but if I waited an extra half second, I think I would have gotten a centered shot.

No plans yet to go back out the next time but hopefully it’s soon.
